William Martin Prior

Everything starts with two clues. 1. I began with Venus colored pencils in the 1950's. 2. My father brought home blank time sheets from his workplace and I designed futuristic hot rods and custom cars in pencil.

In the late 1960's, I went to the University of Delaware and studied art, art history, and art education. I graduated in 1972. My first artworks were paintings, ceramics and sculpture. I have a history of many art shows throughout the NY/NJ area dating back to the late 1970's.

The most important and influential art experiences happened on my travels to India and Nepal in the summer of 1976. I became acquainted with Indian and Tibetan "Thangkas" and the experience left an indelible impact that continues to be an influence on my most recent AI art collaborations.

Another interest of mine occurred at a young age. I was continually infatuated with Post-war/1950 Japanese science fiction films, and still enjoy science fiction themes...

I studied at the Art Students League in New York City with Theodoros Stamos, one of the original post-war abstract expressionists. My college studies earned me a B.A. in Art, an M.A. in Communication Arts, and an M.F.A. in Fine Arts. I am a retired professor of Communication Arts at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, NY.

In the 1980's, I became aware of the work of the visionary artist, Paul Laffoley. We became friends and I recorded his talks and visited his studio in Boston with my son Billy. The experience was mind-altering and I became a follower of Paul until he died in 2015.

During a long season of creating prints on canvas during the COVID epidemic, I produced a large volume of expressionistic and futuristic work. That work led me to experiment with Artificial Intelligence (AI) programming.

The explosion of futuristic-themed context is all presented in my new book, "Chrono Vista" (time-view). Chrono Vista is an imaginative, speculative projection of the possible integration of human, technological, and spiritual evolution.
